Meditation is probably the most important find of human kind.
Once Buddha was asked: “What have you gained from Mediation? “Buddha replied “nothing” however, Buddha said, let me tell you what I have lost anger, anxiety , depression,insecurity, fear of old age and death”.
We all have heard this story before. In a book or on some social media platform. But it doesn’t help us because we are not ready to believe one of the greatest living beings, who have walked the planet.
It is also strange that most of us today are suffering due to one of these conditions- anger, anxiety, depression ,insecurity and fear of old age.
If today, I ask you to buy a pill that can cure all of this, you will probably trust me easily. but trying meditation will sound like an idea from another planet.
Meditation is state of mind which allows you to keep balance in good and bad. It won’t change the situation appearing from external force but it will make your internal force capable of handling situations with great balance.
Meditation will be your best friend to live a balanced life. I know, many of us try to run away from it. Some don’t believe if this simple practice can really have benefits and some can’t sit for long enough to achieve its benefits.
When today, you are wondering how to kill time during this quarantine. Why don’t you give it a try ? After all it’s up us, how we waana come out from this quarantine. And meditation is the possibility of coming out strongly.
I will highly recommend the practice of meditation each day of your life.
I will try to write about an easier way to become meditative. Let’s understand few things to start with
Meditation is a simple process, it is a state of mind and body. Most of us generally try to focus only on the mind ignoring the body which results in difficulty.
Japanese people describe meditation ” as an art of doing nothing “and that is what we exactly need to do.
A : Before the real action
Breathing is the most important tool, you have to be alive. Its undoubtedly even more important than food and water. Hence, once you get up first show gratitude towards your ability to breathe and countinue with 1 minute deep breathing exercise. Deep breathing helps you take in more oxygen.
In India, we call oxygen ” Pranvayu”. Which means “air of life”.
Once, you gain your awareness, drink 2 -3 glasses of drinkable warm water. Do this process very slowly just like you drink a cup of hot tea. Then countinue with your regular activities such as brushing, clearing you bowels and bathing.
Meditation is a process of cleansing your mind and it is very important to first clean your body which will act as a container for your innerself. Hence, the process of cleaning your body before the actual meditation is very important.
B : The real action : Meditation
1. Pick your favourite place in the house. Make sure it’s clean and peaceful.
2. Sit in a comfortable postures of your choice. Make sure none of your body part is in stress at the start. Check each and every body part with your imagination while your eyes are closed.
3. After that sit in this position for selected timeframe (Start with a smaller time frame, as small as 5 mins and increase gradually) without moving. Don’t worry, that itchy feeling over your nose will not kill you,I know its difficult but be strong and be unmoved even if a insect is trying to distract you. It won’t kill you so just be unmoved.
By having control over your body which is relatively easier than mind you will achieve your first step towards meditation.
4.Keep your mouth closed and breathe with your nose. Be watchful of your breath that will reduce your thoughts and if a thought comes don’t try to fight with it.Try to watch your thoughts as an act of play performed in front of you. Which might make you little a emotional but deep inside you know it’s just a drama.
Watch your problems as a third person, do you remember how easily you found solutions to your friends problems when you looked at them as a third person.
Slowly, your thoughts will be reduced. Also, Since you have already gained control over your body, your brain will start generating lesser thoughts as it will realise your entire body has stopped it’s movement.
Achieve the state of mind to be present in the moment.
Most importantly, Dont try to concentrate or achieve meditation to hard. Pure practice with intention will eventually make you experience the sweetness of being meditative.
C: After Meditation
It is most important to understand that meditation is a process and it should remain with you throughout the day or else that 1 hour in the morning won’t help for long and you will complaint that meditation also doesn’t help me.
Hence, I will give you a small practice to countinue this state of mind. Remove 1 minute from your busy schedule 5 times a day. Sit on your office chair or in the Cafeteria, close your eyes for 1 minute and remind yourself about the meditation session in the morning with deep breathing. If you can’t remember the state of mind easily then you can simply remember your most loved person or incident that makes you happy for 1 minute.
Also, try talk only when its essential, have you ever noticed how drained you feel after speaking for a long time? That’s what various unimportant talks does to us eventually.
This small practice will act as a recharge to the energy you will create in the morning with this daily ritual.
